Spain and Portugal Tastings
Fri & Sat June 4th & 5th
Wouldn't it be nice to sip wines in Spain and then traverse over to Portugal for their hearty wines? Of course it would!
Well, D&L's weekend tasting will cost you considerably less than the current pricey costs of airfare to Europe, and no need to worry about some volcanic ash stranding you at Logan all because you wanted to try some wines from Spain and Portugal....Come by River St for our Portuguese wine tasting, or go to Lexington St for Spanish wines - or just go to both!
Here are some fun wine related facts about these two delicious wine growing regions:
- Spain has more land planted to vineyards than France or Italy, but their production is much lower
- Until 1974, the now major white wine production area of Vinho Verde in Portugal, once outlawed vine planting (say it wasn't so!)
- Portugal's southern area of Alentejo is the major cork oak tree production area in the world
- The famousTempranillo grape of Spain goes by the name Tinta Roriz in Portugal
- Sangria originated in Spain, and is the Spanish word for bleeding- hence the original recipe is from red wine

Discover Portugal! There is more to Portugal than it's high alcohol, fortified wine, Port. Although Port is delicious, the table wine from this country should not be overlooked. The red's are bone-dry, rich and complex, while the whites are simply refreshing. Join us on Friday and Saturday as we taste through some of the classics.

Cote du Rhone 2007 $13.99 - 87pts WA - Cote du Rhone from Patrick Lesec Selections. A blend of 50% Syrah, 45% Grenache, and 5% Mouvedre. This supple young wine offers attractive notes of black fruits, tar, and licorice. Its well-made, soft, and delicious! Pair with sushi, tuna tartare, or grilled vegetables.
 Chateau Saint-Cyrques "Cuvee Anna" Rose 2009 $12.99- A rose blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignane from the Rhone area of Costiere de Nimes.
Once again, we found a rose that drinks like a red - these styles of rose offer the ability to taste red berry and peppery-spicy qualities, but serve chilled wine. Try this with burgers, skewered lamb, or steak tip salad. Also, good with olives and hard cheese.
