Easter Weekend Wine Tasting

Fri & Sat April 2nd & 3rd
Stop in this weekend to sample our perfectly paired wines for your Easter dinner.
River Street Wine Tasting
Jeff Slavin from Hangtime Wholesale Wine will be pouring some of his new wines we've picked out for Easter.
NV La Vigne de Alice Prosecco DOC di Conegliano Valdobbiadene V.S.Q.P.R.D. Extra Dry-Le Vigne di Alice is an all-woman operation responsible for the unusually elegant Prosecco Le Vigne di Alice Prosecco di Conegliano Valdobbiadene. It boasts abundant apple, pear, and fruity notes with a dry finish. Pleasant to pair with salads and light cheese/cracker plates. A nice alternative to unoaked Chardonnay.
Malvasia Dell'Emilia-this is sparkling wine made from organic farmed Malvasia grapes of winery Venturini Baldini in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.
This sparkler has lots of fruit on the nose, and has a dry finish, that as Jeff from Hangtime will attest to, you can pair this with that furry fish in your Caesar salad starter, or other salty foods like salami and cheese plates.
M.Chapoutier Domaine de Bila-Haut Cotes du Roussillon Villages '08 - WS 90pt "Top 100 of 2009" - blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignane - the southern Languedoc Roussillon area of Roussillon has the sunniest weather in France. The area keeps on delivering palate pleasing wines - ripe dark red berry aromas in the glass that give way to dark chocolate, white pepper, black cherry and cassis flavors all wrapped up in a long finish. Pair with lamb dishes, or spicy, peppered dishes.
JK Cellars "La Riata" '07 - this is our APRIL Wine of the Month. One of the top sellers at our Speakeasy Sunday pouring, the wine is a blend of Barbera, Dolcetta, Sangiovese, Cab, and Zin. Gobs of fruit and layers of ripe dark fruits, light tannin, and vanilla with a long, dry finish make this great wine with any tomato based Italian fare on the table or just start with a glass while cooking to relax.
Shannon Ridge Zin '07- for the honey glazed hams, carmelized vegetable dishes, and chocolate desserts, this medium bodied Zin is packed with flavors of ripe blueberry, rasperry, vanilla, and licorice. We've been very pleased with all the Shannon Ridge wines - they're all priced under $20 and they hail from Northern Cali's "still affordable to live there" area outside Napa - Lake County.
Weingut Schwartzbock Gruner Veltliner '08 -stop in and try this wine! Gruner's are from Austria, and maybe a little under-rated, but they are made to pair with many different dishes. This one has a soft, round body with ripe apple, citrus fruits, and a peppery spiciness. There really isn't a veggie dish on the table that Gruner wouldn't compliment, and this one will pair with spiced meats too. Packaged in a 1L bottle, you'll have more to serve all those guests too.
Lexington Street Wine Tasting
Trimbach Riesling'07-WS Top 100 of 2009 91pts-Alsatian Riesling are usually dry, in order to match with food. Riesling is particularly convenient with sushis, fish, grilled or with sauce, and is paired based on its ability to match to salty, or spicy foods as contrast, or match more of the sweetness in foods, such as glazed ham. This one is light and crisp, offering white peach, brine, and smoke flavors. Its well balanced with classic minerality on the finish.
Ch.St.Michelle Gewurztraminer '08-a reliable favorite from Chateau Ste. Michelle. It is amazingly aromatic and exhibits the classic lychee, dried orange peel, and clove spice notes that give Gewurztraminer its distinctive, spicy personality. It will pair well with smoked meats/fishes
Durnberg Veltliner L+T '08 We'll have 2 delicious new Gruners for sampling. The L+T displays some woodiness, but its not oaked, vs, the Durnberg Gruner Veltliner Selcet '08 which is more fuller in the mouth from the very start and you can taste the creamy power from ageing on fine lees in 1000 litre oakcasks. Yet the oak doesn't overpower the freshness of the variety.
Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir '07 WS 90pt -While we do have a nice line up of whites, Pinot Noir is your classic red to pair with the ham or the lamb dishes. We've chosen the Domaine Carneros as one of our favorites. Nicely layered flavors of black cherry, and rasberry, with chocolate, toast, and clove. A very good value in this Carneros wine.
Prelada 5 Fincas Reserva '05 - Spanish Reserva blend sourced from 5 difffernt vineyards, and 5 different grapes. This is a wonderfully complex and layered wine which will complement standing rib roasts, lamb, or smoked cheese/ham platters.
Happy Holidays and Bon Appetite! |
