In honor of the upcoming 77th anniversary of the end of Prohibition, D&L has decided to celebrate that most honorable time with Speakeasy Sunday wine tastings!
At the end of Prohibition (March 23, 1933) there were several hundred thousand "illegal" speakeasy clubs in major cities across America. People just wanted a place to enjoy a drink and relax.....Its not even that long ago that Massachusetts laws affected the sale of alcohol on Sundays. My point to all this? Why not take advantage of our freedom to taste unabashedly? Excercise your rights!

2009 Domaine De La Chanade
"Les Rials"
If you don't know this wine you're not alone, but there is definitely a cult following...
It came into our stores in '09 as an unknown, delicious, value priced white wine - and trust me when I say "unknown"....The grape in this wine is a near abandoned 1,000 yr old varietal grown in Southwestern France , but it finished as one of our top selling wines! Les Rials is a white wine made from the near extinct Loin de L'Oeil grape - translation "Far From the Eye".
Les Rials will be arriving in mid-March, and we're taking pre-orders only through the end of February. This wine ships once a year in the Spring, so plan to pick up your summer stock now, AS IT WILL SELL OUT!
Tasting notes - Les Rials is a scrumptious, round, medium-bodied wine with juicy orange and lemon aromas with just the right amount of pear, apple, and citrus on the palate, and a long, satisfying smooth finish.

Weekend Wine Tastings

River St Tasting
Recently we had a winemaker visit - Victor Hugo Roberts, winemaker and owner of Victor Hugo wines in Templeton, CA.
He makes small lots of rich wines from the Central Coast area of Paso Robles. The beautiful labels alone make the wines fly off our shelves, but his wines - The Hunchback blend, Petit Sirah, Viognier, and Zinfandel - showcase the real beauty of the Paso Robles area's wines. Victor was kind enough to sign some of the bottles as well, so you may be able to pick up an autographed bottle at this weekend's tasting!
Along with the Victor Hugo wines, we'll also be pouring Kiona Vineyards Wines from the Red Mountain area of Washington State. We'll pour the Cab/Merlot blend, the Lemberger ( a little known delicious red), and the Chenin Blanc.

You don't have to take a jet plane to take advantage of great wine tasting tours from the 4th largest wine producing state in the US! Yes, you could drive or take a ferry to NY, but you could just drop by D&L on Lexington St in Waltham this weekend to try some amazing wines!
If you haven't tried NY state wines you will be thrilled to know that only 4-5hrs away we have an amazing wine country with a huge diversity of wines. But until you take that trip, you can be sure to enjoy this weekend's tasting line up at our Lexington St store.
