Ok - admittedly some people might not think of food & wine pairing for Thanksgiving (or any gathering for that matter) as "joyful", but fear not - relax - at D&L our mission is to help you find the perfect wines for your holiday gathering. We find it quite enjoyable!

Here are some easy to follow tips and delicious pairings to help you get started - and finished - with your Thanksgiving food & wine pairings.

Starters

Put out the finger foods - cold and hot appetizers, cheese & crackers, or veggie platters and dips - and offer the following:

Sparkling Wines

They can cleanse the palate with their spritzy bubbles and offer a range of styles from Brut (very dry) to Demi sec (sweet), and are available in rose or white, and are easy drinking and refreshing. Their flavors offer pear, apple,strawberry, toasted nuts, honey, citrus, or fresh breads depending on the wine. Try Cava from Spain, or Prosecco from Italy for inexpensive alternatives to Champagne.

Main Course

Whites & Reds

The traditional food for the main course - turkey - done in a myraid of styles pairs delightfully well with fruit forward, medium - full body whites likes Voignier, Riesling, Alsacian Gewurtztraminer, and lighter, less tannic reds such as Pinot Noir, Malbec, Beaujolais, and Rose. You'll find that many of the side dishes served will all be complimented by these wines as well. And if you do spicy foods, a straight up Shiraz from Australia, Syrah, or French Cote du Rhone will either offer a fruity respite from the spicy flavors, or compliment them.

Chile (pronounced "chill-lay") is now considered to be the up and coming wine region for spectacular Bordeaux style wines. Near-perfect grape growing weather, Phylloxera - free (the pesky vineyard pest responsible for devastating vineyards throughout the world), and heavy financial investment in Bordeaux-esque wineries has allowed Chilean winemakers to produce wines of exceptional pedigree and value.

You'll find superb values and tastes in Chile's Cabs, Merlots, Carmeneres, Syrahs, Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blancs, and blends.

Tastings are from 4p.m - 7p.m Fridays and Saturdays & are complimentary.
