 2005 Elizabeth Geppetti Morellino di Scansano Leah's notes: With its high acidity and astringency this wine is reminiscent of a Chianti. Chianti is made from the Sangiovese grape and is one of the most widely planted grape in Italy.  In fact (though they tried to trick us) this wine is a Sangiovese but not from Chianti!  "Morellino" in Scansano is the local name for Sangiovese. The bouquet is well balanced with cherry fruit and earth.  On the palate it is light in weight and structured nicely with well integrated tannins. 

 

2006 Boroli Madonna Di Como Dolcetto D'Alba Winemakers notes: "Wine produced with dolcetto grapes. The colour is deep ruby red with purple tints while the bouquet displays sweet fruity aromas such as violet, marasca, wild blackberry. This wine is consistent and mature and it offers a harmonious and complex balance of tannins and a good acidity, followed by a long appealing finish with typical hints of almond."

 

 

2006 La Valentina Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Winemakers notes: "Deep ruby, purply red colour; clean, vibrant, lingering aromas with hints of red berries, blackberries and black cherries. Very rounded clean flavour with red berries in the finish and hints of tobacco and liquorice, perfectly reflecting the grape variety with a style that is both traditional and modern. Serve with substantial first courses with game sauces, grilled meats and good textured fish dishes."
